About Image Resolution

The resolution of your photos affects how sharply they appear when printed. Ideally, you want to use images that contain 250 pixels per inch. The larger the photo is to appear in your calendar, the larger the resolution or pixel count should be. If your image has a lower pixel count, you may be able to still use it, just not as a full-page image. Simply select a template with smaller image boxes. Our cutting edge software uses a "green-yellow-red" indicator system to let you know if the resolution of your images is sufficient for the template you have selected.

What should you do?

First, understand that images from a web site or cell phone are rarely good enough, except perhaps if you select a template that permits multiple images. When taking photos, try to use at least a 4 Mega Pixel camera and be sure to set the file size the highest you can (for a 4 Mega Pixel camera the highest setting will be 4.0). Lastly, select a size of calendar and template appropriate to your camera.

Will the photos from my camera be good enough?

For most digital cameras the answer is yes, provided you use the camera's highest file setting and you are flexible in your selection of calendar type/size and template. For example, if you use a 4 Mega Pixel camera, you'll get "good" resolution in an 8.5 x 11 calendar using a "full bleed" template. However, if you instead use a template with a 3/4" border (i.e. image print size is smaller), your resolution will improve to "best". When you're selecting a template using our online CalendarBuilder, our software can quickly analyze your photos to let you know their resolution using that template.

*"Full bleed" is a printing term that means means the image goes right to the edge of the page, in effect it is said to bleed off the page.
